Dr. Howard Dobson (VP Research and Development, CanCog Technologies) - The Dog as a Natural Model of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Age Related Conditions

CanCog Technologies is a local contract research organization with a colony of approximately 200 aged beagle dogs. The dog is a well established model of Alzheimer's Disease and is recognized as having advantages over the genetically modified rodent models. The first part of the presentation will describe how the age related dementia in the dog is characterized and briefly discuss other age related conditions such as osteoarthritis, kidney and heart disease that can be used to model human diseases. The second part of the presentation will discuss the various opportunities for collaboration between University of Waterloo researchers and CanCog Technologies such as in vivo studies or the provision of tissue samples.
